🎯 Mission Briefing: Ship It

The feature is finally done. Before you can call it a day, you need to commit your work, take a backup snapshot of the project, and get it pushed for the team to see.

Your objective

Commit your changes with Git, archive the project as a backup, and push the commit to the remote.

Step 1 — Commit your work

The project lives in ~/dashboard:

cd ~/dashboard
git status
git add .
git commit -m "Ship feature: user dashboard"

Step 2 — Take a backup archive

Before pushing, it's good practice to snapshot the working tree:

tar -czvf backup-$(date +%F).tar.gz .
ls -lh backup-*.tar.gz

Step 3 — Push it

git push origin main

Step 4 — Verify

git log --oneline -n 3
git status

A clean git status ("nothing to commit, working tree clean") after pushing means the job is done right.

Practice tasks

  1. Stage and commit your changes with a meaningful message
  2. Create a compressed tar backup archive of the current directory
  3. Push your commit to the origin remote
  4. Verify the backup archive was actually created
  5. Confirm your working tree is clean after pushing
