Mission: The Disk That Vanished

Ticket #6213 — the photo gallery is empty since last night's reboot. Read it:

cat ~/ticket-6213.txt

Find out where the photos are, bring them back — without losing today's uploads — and make sure the next reboot can't do this again.

Useful commands:

lsblk -f
sudo blkid
findmnt /srv/uploads
cat /etc/fstab
sudo findmnt --verify
journalctl -p err

💡 Mounting a disk on a folder hides what's in that folder — it doesn't delete it. Plan before you mount.

Practice tasks

  1. Find the disk the photos are on
  2. Mount the photo disk on /srv/uploads
  3. Today's two uploads are on the photo disk too — next to the old photos
  4. Mount it at every boot: a line in /etc/fstab, by UUID
  5. Fix the line that made the boot wait 90 seconds
  6. Reboot — and see every photo still there
