Terms of use

IVski Linux Playground (linux.ivski.com) is a free website for learning Linux in the browser, made by Ilcho Veleski (IVski). By using it you agree to these terms.

You may

  • use the playground for free, to learn and to practise — on your own, at school or at work;
  • use it to teach: show it in class, send students links to lessons, and make and share exercises with the exercise builder;
  • link to any page, and quote short parts of a lesson with a link back to it.

You may not

  • copy, republish or sell the lessons, missions, projects, practice tasks or the command reference — whole, or in large parts;
  • copy, re-host or reuse the site's code, the terminal simulator included, or build another site from it;
  • download the content automatically (scraping), or use the site in a way that overloads it or the AI service it uses.

Copyright

The lessons and their texts, the missions, projects and practice tasks, the terminal simulator, the design and the code of this site are © 2026 Ilcho Veleski (IVski), all rights reserved. Except:

  • the manual pages shown by man, explain and the command reference come from Debian packages and keep their authors' licenses — see /man/NOTICE.txt;
  • the exercises you make with the exercise builder are yours;
  • fonts and libraries keep their own licenses.

Your data

  • There are no accounts. Your progress, settings and the terminal's files stay in your browser. Moving them to another device works with a code you copy yourself.
  • The site counts anonymously which lessons are opened and finished, which tasks are done, and the Good / Bad answers under the lessons — no name, no IP address, no cookie. Browsers that ask not to be tracked (Do Not Track, Global Privacy Control) don't send the lesson counters.
  • A command the terminal doesn't simulate itself is sent to an AI service (Groq) that writes its output: the command, the folder you are in, and what was piped into it. Don't type passwords or personal data into the terminal. Answers are kept for a week to be reused, without anything that identifies you.
  • To keep the AI and the other services from being overused, a one-way hash of your IP address is kept for about a day.
  • The name on a certificate or an exercise's completion code is written into that code; the server signs it and doesn't keep it.

No warranty

The playground simulates a Debian server: it's provided as it is, for learning, and can differ from a real system. Don't base decisions about real servers on it. The site may change or stop, and these terms may change — the date below shows the last change.
